A Round-up!

By | June 1, 2026

A good turn-out of Club members occurred on 4th May 2026. Could it have been something to do with the appearance of warm sunshine and absence of strong winds? Quite Likely. The number of parked cars gives a clue!

The array of photos below provides an indication of the continued diversity of Club members’ fixed-wing interest, both IC and electric, from EDF to gliding, the list is long. The day was not without aviation drama, Phil’s electric Mosquito managed to loose (nearly) its port motor when in mid flight, it managed to detach itself from its mounting. All was not lost though, in his normal skilful way, Phil maintained control and managed to land the machine without any further damage! Some snaps……..

Meantime, Darren was demonstrating his cleverly modified second-hand bicycle stand which he uses for servicing his airframes at home and at the field. He subsequently found several thermals too; another happy Member!

A small issue with our “strip” realised during the day was that it had become a little uneven. Three days later, the ‘A’ Team comprising Peter, Keith, Roly and Phil, gave it a good ‘going over’ with the aid of our sit-on mower and a hired roller as the photos show. Recent rabbit scrapings and molehill constructions were removed and rectified by Peter and Keith using conventional methods whilst Roly and Phil manned the hardware.  The unintended removal of an undercarriage on landing is now rather more down to the skill of the pilot! A huge thank you to the ‘A’ Team, a good morning’s work much appreciated by the membership.

Above, you see half the ‘A’ team (Phil & Roly) hard at work plus Roly exiting the roller in front of our shiny new flight-line fence barrier.

Sunday 31st May saw Alan Fleming presented with his Club Fixed Wing ‘Certificate of Achievement – A’ which formalises permitted solo flying at our ‘patch’. Alan had joined the Club over a year ago with a request to be helped to learn to fly. He was of course welcomed and Phil took on the tutorship – which seems to have been successful! Well done Alan and well done Phil! The photo shows Alan (on the left) being presented with his certificate by the Chairman, your scribe. (NB PMFC FW-A reflects BMFA A achievement standards and is signed off by the Chairman, Tutor and Secretary.)
