Roly’s Blackbird

By | September 18, 2022

Thursday 15th September saw Roly take his much awaited own-build EDF Blackbird to “the patch”!

Our on-the-spot club member, Phil, reports.

The morning saw this amazing model being tested, its aerodynamics studied by those in attendance. Hand launching wasn’t too bad, however it was just slightly underpowered or overweight!! The cog seemed just right with one 6s up front as the bird just gently sank into ground. Roly tried 2x6s but it put the cog too far forward with only about a 10%!! extra power….. overall I would say a successful test flight considering it’s an own design with no plans to work to. Back to the drawing board, maybe reposition the second 6s to get the cog right.

A fine looking beast!
A fine looking beast – we look forward to seeing it airborne

We were joined by Fuzz and Paul, not ideal wind conditions for training, however we did manage 4 flights with Paul.

Meantime, Pete was enjoying the spectacle of full size activities in Reno; lucky Pete!!

Behind you!
