BIG FUN 2023

By | October 6, 2023

Throughout 2023 we have been holding regular competitions for our “Club Model”, which has been the Bill Kits “Big Fun”.

The events started at the beginning of the year with static judging, and have been followed by regular events such as fastest and slowest, timed flight and spot landing. All of the planned events have taken place, which in itself was an achievement.

The majority of models have had modifications to improve their flight characteristics, and to that end all the models survived until the very last event, which is a tribute to the pilots and their modeling skills.

The model has generated a lot of interest, with motors, props and batteries etc. discussed at length. The build took place over the winter months which kept competitors busy and generated many e-mails!.

We are planning a similar fun competition next year, and hope the participants get as much pleasure in taking part as we have this year.

Simon Cragg, PMFC(D) Secretary.

Thank you, Simon.

Below is a (mainly pictorial) record of the final ‘Big Fun’ competition which took place on Sunday October 1st. Weather was not the best but good enough for the event to go ahead; thank you to whoever was in control! The first snap comprises the participants with a selection of the airframes.

Brian and Keith’s steeds – slightly ‘personalised’ from the original design; both flew well.

‘Between-heats’ lunch break; it’s a hard life for some!

Phil’s model and the result of Roly’s unfortunate Heat-1 accident. 🙁

Tension is mounting!!

Simon’s and your Scribe’s Big Funs; both also ‘Personalised’!

Phil undertaking his ‘Timed Taxy’ and latterly assisting Simon with summarising the year’s competition scores. An outline of the two-times-around-the-loop taxy route can be seen on the score board behind. The scoring for the day was………….

It is somewhat surprising that Phil and your scribe scored the same personal timing for each of our two taxy runs!

And so, to the final result of the 2023 Big Fun competitions.

1st – Simon

2nd – Roly

3rd – Pete

Equal 4th – Keith & Brian

6th – Phil

Equal 7th – Fuzz and your scribe, David.

Prizes will be awarded at our January AGM!

A big “Thank you” must go to Simon for running this year-long event. There was much behind-the-scenes activity, and we are all grateful for his hard work. We look forward to what is in-store for 2024!
