Another busy day at Trigon which was much enjoyed by attendees. We had two quite separate enjoyable competitions, one each by Simon and Cyril. Let Simon describe his part first…….

Well, yet another fun filled day at our fantastic club flying site.
We were blessed by superb weather with blue skies and warm sunshine, the car park filling up early.

So what was the event?

After suitable practice, I had come up with the following idea:
Attach my iPhone to the top wing of my trusty Telemaster  trainer, and set it up to record distance, height and altitude.

I tried about ten different apps, until I came up with two that would run at the same time for “belt a braces” purposes.
Each participant was given a score sheet on which they entered total distance in miles, maximum height in feet and maximum speed in miles per hour.

The figures were entered whilst consuming a light lunch, accompanied by the inevitable banter (and trying to get the pens I supplied to work!).

After the dust had settled, the results on the iPhone were:

Max height: 300ft, Max speed: 60.9mph, Total distance flown: 2.3 miles. The winner of each category was presented with a freshly baked and suitably inscribed cake:

Height winner: David W. @ 283ft (-17ft)

Speed winner: Peter H. @ 65 mph (+4.1mph)

Distance winner: Kim E. @ 1.9 miles (-0.4 miles)

An interesting event that seemed to be enjoyed by all members, judging by the round of applause when it was all over!”

Blue skies

Simon.

…..and from Cyril, his Timed Flight Competition. Straight forward rules for any model airframe. Whilst flying, call “Now” and land as close as you can estimate to 60 seconds later – with Cyril manning his stop watch beside you! Results were as follows……

1st – Fuzz, 60.30 sec (+0.3) Declared joint equal first, so close with Cyril, less than 1 second.
1st – Cyril 59.88 sec (-0.12!)
3rd – David 56.40 sec (-3.60)
4th – Ion 64.00 sec (+4.00)
5th – Simon 55.50 sec (-4.50)
6th – Phil 54.00 sec (-6.00)
7th – Graham 66.40 sec (+6.40)
8th – Peter M 68.20 sec (+8.20)
9th – Kim 71.10 sec (+11.10)
Peter W good effort in tricky weather.

A brilliant day in sunshine but turbulent wind at times which did not always help!
