Flying Times & Christmas Note

By | December 18, 2020

Flying Times Reminder – Whilst COVID is still with us, our Landlords have given us permission to use the site on Tuesdays, in addition to our other existing days.

Winter days & timings are currently:

Saturday…………………………………………..No flying

Sunday……………………………………………10am – 4pm.

Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday……………..10am – 4pm

Christmas Day……………………………………No Flying

Boxing Day………………………………………..No Flying

New Year’s Day…………………………………..No Flying

Please note, as we continue to use the booking system, that “Flying Slot” change over time is now 1pm. Afternoon ‘slot flyers are requested to not arrive more than five minutes before their reserved start time. Morning flyers, please vacate the site promptly to avoid breaching the protocols!

Please start parking from the hard standing end of the pits, the ground is much harder in that area so there is a reduced risk of vehicles getting stuck and damaging our grass.

…and a Christmas Note from your Chairman!

Dear All,

I believe I can be fairly sure that we are collectively feeling pretty much “Oh dear, what a year”; I know I am! The dreaded virus has made it difficult for all of us. It continues to make its presence felt and will do so for a while yet. That said, we are all aware of the vaccine-fuelled glimmer of hope that something resembling normal operations may be restored for us during 2021; I certainly hope and pray so.

This autumn, our landlord has been very generous. To ease the impact of national restrictions, he has extended our allowed winter flying week-day to 4pm along with the addition of Tuesday as a permitted flying day. Spreading a little more icing on the cake, we were offered a reduced flying-patch rent for 2021!

The reduction was sufficient to cover the cost of the much-needed strimmer and mower servicing. Fuzz (aka Mike England!) is to be thanked for taking the lead on the activity and making sure it all happened. As is the norm, there are several unsung heroes who freely give their time and energy in support of our club, they know who they are and I would like to thank them for all their hard work during 2020.

I see that the BMFA has announced the provision of new government regulations for 2021 covering the flying of model aircraft and drones after the 31st December. As far as I can deduce, there are no “shock-horrors” to concern us but I would like to ask everyone to make themselves aware of the new rules set. They can be found in summary form at https://bmfa.org/News/News-Page/ArticleID/2706/New-regulations-for-BMFA-Members-flying-drones-and-model-aircraft-after-31st-December

Please don’t forget this is a working club website! We have several “Posts” here recording a selection of earlier club activities along with links to interesting related sites; a useful aeromodelling alternative to observing the rain and leaden skies. Rainfall and weather forecast links are provided too but it is not mandatory to click on them right now! I add items to the site on an as and when basis, if you have a suggestion for an additional feature, I would be pleased to hear from you.

Regarding the future, none of us has a crystal ball but I believe there is some justification in being mildly optimistic about the future. Hopefully it will soon all be a distant memory and field chat will include “….do you remember when covid……?”, etc, etc. Due to advancing years, responses may of course (& hopefully!) include a measure of vagueness!

May I wish you all a very happy festive period and all the best of everything for 2021. I have written to Santa and requested he be generous on the aviation front!

Take care and stay safe.

Kind regards,

David Watson.
